10 Travel Tips to Save you Time and Money, by Mark Orwoll, T&L Travel:
- Be flexible with your travel plans, and check lots of websites including the all new Bing, air-fare.com, and kayak.com/buzz.
- Pay less for an upgrade with a Y-up Economy-Class Fare. This is not available on every flight, and it is only a domestic trick, but it works. You automatically get upgraded to first class at check in.
- Travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Saturdays to avoid long airport lines.
- Avoid long lines at economy-class check in. Walk up to the business class or first class check in, and see if an upgrade is available. If not, just check in there.
- Combine online research (Like us at Tripst3r) with direct bookings. Check out hotelscombined.com or wego.com, and call the individual properties to ensure you are getting the best rates.
- Don’t pay extra for web access–see if there is free Wi-Fi somewhere, before paying the daily internet price.
- Avoid ATM fees overseas. They are extremely costly.
- Know the Taxi Fare to your hotel. This is in case the taxi driver attempts to charge you significantly more then the estimated price.
- Sometimes hiring a car (chauffeur) is cheaper then renting a car. In Bali (8-10 hrs it runs $35)
- Sleep on the train if you are traveling long distances–it is generally cheaper to go in an overnight sleeper car then a hotel.
How to Find Great Airfare Deals–by T&L Travel
- Use the web, yapta.com, tripsadvisor.com, travelocity, or orbitz.
- Watch new players, JetBlue or Southwest especially. Jet America is also a new player with their new $9 fares.
- Become a follower on Twitter @mytripst3r, @jetblue, @virginamerica, @unitedairlines
- Follow restaurants on Twitter, such as Fox Restaurant Concepts who post specials @debbieporterfrc
- Go for the upgrade–use frequent flyer miles to upgrade your seat.
- Factor in timing. Sometimes it is best to book close to the travel date, and sometimes it is best to book farther out. This depends on the airline and the destination you are headed.

another suggestion would be to always check all the discount travel websites. For example Priceline might be out of a certain flight–or be more expensive–when Orbitz has a better rate or a more convenient flight!
