You Tube Video: Greece is beautiful…that’s why
–
Greece is probably one of the best countries to visit. From Rich Ancient History to incredible ocean side parties in some of the 1300 + islands. When I was there I visited Santorini, Mikonos, Naxos, Paros, Ios, Athens and Thesaloniky.
Santorini was once a volcano and therefore it sits up high, you can see nothing but beautiful ocean and the best sunrises and sunsets I have ever seen (I’ve visited 5 continents and over 15 countries). It is the most romantic gateway you can imagine, there you can visit the red sand, white sand and black sand beaches within a mile of each other. Santorini is one of the few places in the world where you can see the three types of sands so close to each other. You can get great art and jewelry from local artists and eat some of the best greek food. There is one mexican restaurant and although I dont recommend the food, I recommend it for drinks in their balcony as it sits in one of the highest places in the island.
Mikonos was super fun, the party never stops, beach parties start as early as 8:00AM and go thru the whole day and the night clubs dont close until 6:00AM so you have time for a quick 2 hr nap in between parties. My favorite part of Mikonos was its diverse group of visitors, in this island you will see large groups of people partying day and night as well as couples having a romantic dinner watching the waves brake 3 feet away from you. When I was there we met people from all over the world, specially England, Spain, Australia and Germany. Also, you can take a fairy to the Island of Dilos which is a museum only. In other words, nobody lives there, it was known to be the sacred ground and the center of the world in ancient times, if you want the details, you are going to have to go there.
Naxos is one of the largest islands (next to crete) in the country, this was a great, much less expense place to visit because it is mostly visited by Greeks, I rarely saw people from other countries.
Paros was very similar to Naxos because it was mostly Greek tourists and much less expensive then Mikonos or any of the other islands. Paros is less than a 1/4 the size of Naxos and it is a 25 minute fairy ride to Naxos.
Ios was one of the larger island and only recommended to the younger traveler, if you are older than 26-27 its probably not the place for you. I was there and had a great time but besides us the oldest people we saw there were in their early 20’s, we even saw a lot of recent High School Graduates.
The beautiful thing about all the islands is that there were no chain restaurants or hotels, everything was owned by the locals and although the hotel accomodations were not the best (specially for the price) the food was great and my trip was well worth every penny.
Athens is the capital of Greece and as such it was overpopulated and somewhat polluted but the night life was OUT OF THIS WORLD and the history was AMAZING going back to BC times. The airport was renovated after the Olympics and it was very nice. Getting to the islands from there is easy and relatively inexpensive, you can fly for a little more or take a fairy for about 50-100 euros (depends on where you are going). University of Athens is also worth checking out, it was built with stone that makes it look ancient, beautiful columns, etc.
Thesaloniky is also an incredible place to visit, it is a large port and there are fairys that can take you to istanbul in just a few hrs. Furthermore, there are a lot of Great museums and military buildings from ancient times, The Alexander the Great Museum is located there.
Although travelling is expensive if you travel between Mid-Late september to early-Mid may you should be able to find flights for under 1,000 US dollars and enjoy your days for less than 60 US plus hotel.
All in all I strongly recommend to put Greece on the top of your list.
